good to hear the nova made it back on the road!
As far as the gear I cant remember what exactly it was called. I had to do some work to my column on my nova a long time ago, it was the tilt knuckle
that came loose. I also pulled that steering wheel lock pin that was in there coz I heard they would jam up and I figure since I was in there, I
should remove it.

ok it broke a sector gear again and left her stuck at a freinds house at 9:30
at nite. We got another new one... this time we replaced the switch as well, so back on the road., She took it to get smoged and yep it failed way to rich so we timed it it was 4 degress out so adjusted that and the carb as well so we will see if that does it It sucks for her cost $27.99 every time what ever happened to the dont pass
dont pay or fail and free retest days. she only works 2 days a week and getting 6-9 hours i dont know how she can even afford to drive

man those dont pass/pay deals are slowly disappearing due to this eco... but they are there, just gotta hunt them down.
Man that gear issue is odd, would the gear shifter maybe playin a role? it might be at that right spot where its still kinda engaged puttin stress on
that gear? I am just tossin ideas out...

we think it was the rod that was bent just a little and the switch was a little stiff as well. It works very good for now, but her 10 days are up so think it will go back to sitting in the back yard for a
few.............

Steve to get it to pass smog switch the vacume advance to ported vacume instead of manifold vacume and lean the carb way out.If it is a edelbrock turn
the screws in.If it is a quadrajet open them up.Also be sure it is at operating temp when you adjust the carb and when you smog test it.Put in a 180
thermostat if it only has a 160.Just switch back to the manifold vacume and 160 thermostat for power after it passes the test.On ported vacume it will
be retarded at idle and the exhast manifolds will glow red hot at night,It burns off the hydrocarbons and will make the cataletic convertor hotter so
it works better. It is why all the 80 vehicles are total dogs ported vacume retards the advance curve and kills low end torque

yes it is an edelbrock, and we tried to adjust the srews in and before we changed the metering rods it wouldnt change the idle then after we did the
change it wont idle unless we back the screws out some. the smog guy thinks that there might be somthing holding the mettering rods up from the jets
making it run rich at idle?

You have to open the butterflies to get it to idle with the screws turned in.Retard the timing. It is the only thing that will help. You will need to
jet it the same as a 500 cfm carb to pass emissions. The summit racing part number is EDL-1498 That will get you the jets and needles you need to pass
emission.Check them out they are cheap. You can swith back after you pass

well now they think that it has a bad valve? Going to rebuild the carb
and put it back in and see what it says on the smog test

ok we took the carb off and we rebuilt it, it was bad with a build
up in the bottom of it.(gas was very black in the bowls) when we put it back on it fired up and idled very nice unlike before. hoping that is a plus
in the right direction. But we will have to wait until next week when she gets paid to get another smog test. keepin our fingers crossed
